(Fond du Lac, WI) - Dakota Dubetz (Chestermore, AB) helped Marian open up 2011 with a victory on Friday evening, as the sophomore scored two goals in Marian's 6-4 victory over Northland College at the Blue Line Family Ice Arena. Marian has now won five straight and is 10-5 overall and 7-3 in the MCHA.
The Sabres out-shot Northland 49-38 and scored one power-play and one shorthanded goal in the contest.
Marian took control in the first period, as they scored four times to take a 4-2 lead. They scored twice to open the second period to take a 6-2 lead, but the Lumberjacks made things interesting, scoring once in the second and once again in the third.
Dubetz scored twice in the first, along with
Chris Thompson (Woodbury, MN) and
Matt Williams (Lacombe, AB).
In the second,
Todd Collins (Whitby, ON) and
Justin Cormier (Calgary, AB) both lit the lamp. Collins scored on the power play, while Cormier tallied a score while the Sabres were a man down.
Josh Baker (Canton, MI) recorded 34 saves in the victory.
These two teams will face off again tomorrow at 4:00 PM.
