– Three third period goals by the visiting Saints of College of St. Scholastica erased a two-goal advantage for the Marian University men's hockey team and propelled the guests to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory in the second game of the MCHA/NCHA Showcase hosted by Marian University at Blueline Family Ice Center this evening, Nov. 25.

The Sabres took a 3-1 lead after Chris Thompson's goal at the 5:07 mark of the third period, but it wasn't enough to hold off the pesky Saints. St. Scholastica's Brandon Nowakowski answered with a score 35 seconds after Thompson and two more goals followed, including Chris Sinclair's game-winner with just four minutes remaining in regulation.

The Saints improved to 4-2-2 overall while the Sabres dropped to 5-2-2.

Sinclair's unassisted goal game off a faceoff and as a shock to the Sabres, whose goaltender, Josh Baker, had been standing on his head all night long. The sophomore net-minder made 19 saves in the second period, followed by 15 more in the third en route to 39 for the game.

Forward Robbie Bailey netted the game's first score with a power play goal just 2:30 into the game on assists by Aaron Leonard and Bryce Wilson. CSS's Carter Davis would respond just before the break with a goal at the 18:24 mark on assists by Brett Corcoran and Alex Valenti to make it 1-1.

In the second, Brian Berger got into the act thanks to assists from Dakota Dubetz and Tanner Burton. It was Berger's sixth goal of the year and came just shy of the midway mark to give the Sabres a 2-1 lead.

It was stay that way through the second intermission and Thompson gave the home team a 3-1 advantage just over five minutes into the third. But then the Saints scored three unanswered goals, including one on a power play to make up the difference and eventually win the game.

Marian was outshot 43-31 in the game and went 1-for-3 on power plays. St. Scholastica was 1-for-6, finally converting a chance after the Sabres killed off the first four tries.

The Sabres will face St. Norbert College in the finale of the MCHA/NCHA Showcase at 7 p.m. tomorrow night. The Green Knights defeated Lawrence University in the opener of the showcase by a score of 5-1.
