– The Marian University men's hockey team allowed another two-goal lead to slip away, but this time it was to defending national champions, St. Norbert College, settling for a 5-5 tie in the finale of the MCHA/NCHA Showcase hosted by Marian this evening, Nov. 26.

St. Norbert took an early 2-0 lead after two quick scores in the opening period, but the Sabres answered back with three goals in about a three and a half minute span to take the lead before intermission. The lead would grow to 5-3 before the Green Knights tied it just shy of the six-minute mark, which is how it stood through five minutes of overtime.

Marian stands as the only MCHA team to take St. Norbert to the brink as the Green Knights are now 54-0-2 against MCHA teams. The Sabres lay claim to both ties with the other coming back in 2004, Head Coach Jasen Wise's first season with the Sabres.

The Sabres go 0-1-1 in the showcase and are now 5-2-3 overall, while the Green Knights go 1-0-1 in the showcase and sit at 6-2-3 overall.

In a wild opening period, the Sabres came away with three of five combined goals by both teams. Glomski scored twice, while Tanner Burton added two assists.

Both of Glomski's goals came after Bryce Wilson put the Sabres on the board at the 12:28 mark and all three Marian goals came in a span of three and a half minutes. That followed a pair of scores by the Green Knights that spanned just 27 seconds to put them in front 2-0.

The Berger brothers came up big in the second period, giving the Sabres the lead once again after a St. Norbert tying goal by Seth Soley. Sophomore Matt Berger one-timed the go-ahead score off a won faceoff by Chris Thompson to give the Sabres a 4-3 advantage at the 5:40 mark. Freshman Brian Berger then made it a two-goal lead soon thereafter with a goal at the 8:23 mark.

That forced St. Norbert Head Coach Tim Coughlin to make a switch at goalie and put in David Jacobson. The freshman net-minder went on to make 22 saves without allowing another goal to the Sabres.

The Green Knights cut the deficit to 5-4 when Cody Keefer connected with one just 2:35 into the third period. Key save after key save by Josh Baker kept the Sabres in front until Brandon Hoogenboom tied it up at the 13:57 mark.

Both goalies stood on their heads to the final horn after five minutes of overtime as the game resulted in a 5-5 tie. Baker made 42 saves in the contest while Jacobson made 22 of the Green Knights' 32 saves in the game.

The Sabres will jump back into MCHA play with a pair of road games on tap against Northland College Dec. 2-3. Puck drops in the opener at 7:05 p.m. in Ashland, Wis.
