(Mesa, AZ) - Marian University got another solid pitching effort on day two of their spring trip, but fell 4-2 to Saint Mary's University. Marian is now 0-2 as they prepare to face Augsburg College in a twinbill tomorrow afternoon.
The Cardinals struck first as they plated three runs in the third. Two of the runs were unearned as they took advantage of two Sabre errors. They added another in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead.
The Sabre offense came to life in the eighth as they scored twice. A
Garrett Dorn (Kaukauna, WI) double scored
Jace Unrein (Racine, WI). Dorn later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Matt Schroeder (Howards Grove, WI).
The Sabres only collected five hits in the contest and were led by Dorn's two hits.
Freshman pitcher
Brett Hogan (Prairie du Chien, WI) kept Marian in the game with a solid pitching peformance in his debut. He struck out five in his seven innings and scattered six hits. He gave up just two earned runs.
Marian stranded nine runners on the basepaths in the contest.
