(Phoenix, AZ) - Marian University earned a big sweep on Sunday afternoon over Augsburg College with victories of 10-2 and 4-3. Marian is now 2-2 on their spring trip and will have the day off on Monday.
The Sabres offense came to life on Sunday to compliment another two great starts by seniors
Dustin Andrus (Oakfield, WI) and
Jesse Blum (Marian, WI). They both picked up victories in their first outings of 2011.
In game one, the Auggies took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Sabre offense answered in the top of the third to the tune of four runs. The Sabres knocked out four hits and took advantage of two Auggie errors.
Kent Lentz (Oxford, WI) had a two-RBI triple, while
Anthony Porcaro (Burlington, WI) and
Jace Unrein (Racine, WI) also drove in runs.
The Sabres added two more in the fourth as
Matt Schroeder (Howards Grove, WI) and
Phil Seis (Antigo, WI) scored on an error after they collected hits earlier in the inning.
Marian added three in the sixth and another in the seventh to finish the scoring.
Ryan Hiller (Marshfield, WI) and Schroeder were both 3-for-4, while Sies, Unrein and Lentz all added two hits.
Schroeder scored three times, while Lentz and Unrein both drove in a pair.
Andrus went the distance and gave up just four hits and two earned runs. He struck out three and walked just one.
The Sabres out-hit Augsburg 16-4 in the game.
In game two, Augsburg hit a three-run homer in the first, but after that Blum settled down and was flawless the rest of the way. He gave up just two hits, struck out six and walked three in five innings.
Marian made it 3-1 in the bottom of the first and then tied it in the third as
Garrett Dorn (Kaukauna, WI) drove in a pair with a single. They scored the eventual game-winning run in the fourth.
The game got very interesting in the top of the seventh as the Auggies loaded the bases.
Cory Martin (Beaver Dam, WI) got Marian out of the jam however, getting a strikeout and a groundout to close out the game. He didn't give up a run in his two-inning save.
Porcaro and
Beau Burgert (Oshkosh, WI) both had a pair of hits to lead Marian.
