(Mesa, AZ) - Macalester College scored a run in the top of the ninth inning on Wednesday to defeat Marian University 4-3 at Gene Autry Sports Complex. The Scots came back from a 3-0 deficit in the game by scoring all four of their runs after the sixth inning. Marian is now 2-5 as they will take on Central College tomorrow afternoon.
Marian took the lead in the second inning as
Matt Schroeder (Howards Grove, WI) singled in
Jace Unrein (Racine, WI). Marian added two more in the fifth to make it 3-0.
Phil Seis (Antigo, WI) and
Anthony Porcaro (Burlington, WI) picked up RBIs in the inning.
Marian starter
Mitch Gardner (Sheboygan, WI) was cruising along until the Scots scored one in the sixth. Gardner worked a scoreless seventh before giving up a leadoff double in the eighth. He scattered eight hits in his seven innings of work and struck out three.
Macalester scored twice in the eighth on two hits and a Marian error. Then in the ninth, they were able to advantage of a miscue in the outfield to score a run.
Marian had a chance in the bottom of the ninth as Seis was on second base with two outs, but they were unable to drive him in.
Schroeder led the offense with a pair of hits.
