(Schaumburg, IL) - Marian University dominated game one on Saturday against Dominican with a 9-1 win, but fell 7-3 in game two. The Sabres are now 4-6 overall and 1-1 in the NAC.
Marian out-hit Dominican 15-4 in game one got a gem from
Mitchell Gardner (Sheboygan, WI) on the mound. Gardner scattered three hits and struck out seven in his eight innings of work.
Dominican took a 1-0 lead in the fourth, but Marian answered with two in the fifth. The Sabres then tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take a 4-1 lead. They opened it up in the ninth with five runs on five hits.
Matt Schroeder (Howards Grove, WI) and
Kent Lentz (Oxford, WI) had big offensive games in the opener. Schroeder was 4-for-4 with a pair of runs and a RBI. Lentz was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
Jace Unrein (Racine, WI), Garrett Dorn (Kaukauna, WI) and
John Cetnar (North Fond du Lac, WI) all collected two hits in the victory.
In game two, Dominican plated five runs to grab control of the game. Marian added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but Dominican answered in both innings with a run.
Marian made it 7-3 in the seventh, but couldn't get any closer.
The Sabres stranded eight runners in the game, including two in the third and eighth innings.
Marian out-hit the Stars 12-5 in the game, but came up short.
Unrein, Dorn, Lentz,
Beau Burgert (Oshkosh, WI) and
Phil Seis (Antigo, WI) all had a pair of hits for Marian.
Marian will play Rockford College in their home opener tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM.
