(Ripon, WI) - The Sabres went on the road for a single non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon and fell 7-5 to the Ripon College Red Hawks. Marian is now 11-14 overall, as is Ripon.
The Sabres took a 1-0 lead in the first as
Anthony Porcaro led off with a walk. He then stole second and moved to third on a
Will Martin bunt. Porcaro scored on a
Ryan Hiller groundout. The Red Hawks scored two in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.
Ripon scored two more in the third to make it 4-1, but Marian made it 4-2 in the fourth as
Kent Lentz singled in
Garrett Dorn. They then made it 4-3 in the fifth as Burgert drove in Porcaro.
Ripon then scored two in the fifth and another in the sixth to make it 7-3. Marian scored one in the seventh on a Burgert RBI-single and another in the ninth on an error, but couldn't get any closer.
Sam Forkert took the loss in this one. He gave up four earned runs in his four innings. He struck out five.
Ripon out-hit Marian 9-8 and was able to overcome four errors. Marian committed three errors in the defeat.
Porcaro led the offense with two hits.
Marian is back in action again on Saturday, as they will host Wisconsin Lutheran College. First pitch is scheduled for noon at Herr-Baker Field.
