(Fond du Lac, WI) - The Sabres took on nonconference foe, Ripon College, on Wednesday evening and defeated the Red Hawks 7-6 on Senior Night. The Sabres withstood a late Ripon rally to move to 15-19 overall.
After Ripon scored one in the top of the first, Marian tied it in the bottom of the first as
Will Martin singled in
Anthony Porcaro, who had doubled to start the inning. The Sabres then grabbed the lead in the third as
John Cetnar doubled down the left field line to score Martin.
Marian tacked onto their lead in the fifth as they plated three runs.
Ryan Hiller and Cetnar recorded RBI-singles in the inning, while
Beau Burgert drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Ripon scored once in the top of the sixth to make it 5-2, but Marian answered in the seventh.
Matt Schroeder recorded a RBI-single, while
Garrett Dorn hit a sac-fly to drive in Hiller.
In the eighth, the Red Hawks hit a two-out, two-run home run to cut the Marian lead to 7-4. Things got even more ineresting in the ninth as the Red Hawks plated a run and had runners on second and third with one out.
Marian brought in
Jace Unrein, who gave up a sac-fly to make the game 7-6. He then recorded a strikeout to record his first save of the year.
Codey Ehlert picked up his first career victory, pitching three innings in relief. He gave up just one run and struck out five.
Cetnar led the Marian offense, going 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Martin also added three hits and a pair of runs.
Hiller and Schroeder each had a pair of hits for Marian in the victory.
Marian will close out the regular season on Saturday, as they will play at Concordia University-Wisconsin in a crucial NAC showdown.
