Saints Top Sabres, 2-1

Box Score

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Two unanswered goals in the third period against the Marian University men's hockey team proved the difference as they dropped a 2-1 decision to the College of St. Scholastica, this evening, Nov. 24, at the Cornerstone Community Center. This weekend's games end the annual MCHA/NCHA Thanksgiving tournament.

The Sabres played two periods of standout defense, but the Saints ended the defensive stand in the third period. A goal early and late in the third by the Saints proved to be the end result.

St. Scholastica improves to 3-5 overall with the win, while Marian drops to 4-5-1 overall with the loss.

After an evenly matched first period, Marian's Matt Berger took advantage of a power-play opportunity after Saint, Tyler Miller, was called for slashing. The goal, assisted by Tyler Klein, came at the 10:17 mark, and gave the Sabres a 1-0 lead.

In the third period, the Marian attack slowed as they were only able to get off seven shots for the entire period. At the 3:37 mark, Brandon Nowakowski found the back of the net to put the Saints on the board after taking advantage of an Ashton Reinboldt hooking foul. Nowakowski again, broke down the Sabre defense at the 16:12 mark for the game-winner.

Marian goalie and Fond du Lac native, Randy Willis, started his fourth game of the season and made 35 saves in the loss.

The Sabres rest now until Friday, Nov. 30, when they will play host to a two-game series against Northland College. Puck is set to drop at 7 p.m.
