Defense Steps Up in 0-0 Draw with UW-Oshkosh

Box Score

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Defense dominated the field of play for the Marian University men's soccer team as it held UW-Oshkosh scoreless after 110 minutes, playing to a 0-0 draw in two overtimes at Smith Fields this evening, Sept. 12.

Sophomore goalkeeper Bryce Woldt made 12 saves, including 11 in the second half and overtime, for the Sabres. UW-Oshkosh peppered the Marian defense with shot-after-shot, holding a 27-10 shot advantage with a 24-6 margin after halftime.

Marian moves to 0-3-2 overall, while UW-Oshkosh moves to 1-1-2 on the season.

The first half saw few scoring chances as seven shots total were taken with the edge going to Marian, 4-3. The Sabres got off the lone shot on goal in the first half as well, a slow rolling attempt right into the hands of Titan keeper, Nick Barry.

The UW-Oshkosh offense found its groove in the second half, out-shooting Marian, 19-3, with 10 shots on goal. The defense in front of Woldt prevented many more scoring opportunities, but for the ones that made it through, the Marian sophomore stood tall to the task.

Both overtimes were played even both ways.

The Sabres earned only their second-ever non-losing result against the Titans, adding a tie to their lone win in 23 chances all-time.

Marian will be back in action this Saturday, Sept. 15, when it takes on Wisconsin Lutheran College at 4 p.m. in the Northern Athletics Conference opener in Milwaukee. The Sabres' next home game will be a NAC match against Aurora on Wednesday, Sept. 19.
