Box Score Game Notes
Final Go-Round: The Sabres will conclude their 2013 season on Tuesday evening, traveling up Highway 41 to Oshkosh. The Titans enter Tuesday's contest with a 12-0-4 record and ranked #6 in the latest NSCAA poll. In the NCAA Regional Rankings, Oshkosh stands atop the North Region. Redshirt senior Tony Starnes leads the offense with 16 points, coming by way of six goals and four assists. Freshman goalkeeper Sam Gabrilska sports an impressive 0.43 goals against average.
A Year of Nail-Biters: When future teams look back at the 2013 season, one of the oddities they might notice is the number of close games the Sabres were involved in. Through 16 games, Marian has been involved in eight one-goal games. In those, Marian has won two of those games. If the ball had just bounced a slightly different direction, this season could've had an entirely different result.
Offensive Explosion: Senior David Reinke entered the 2013 season with 14 goals under his belt. By the third game of the year, he had already highest total in a season with seven goals. The San Jose native has scored 13 goals as of this publication with one game remaining against UW-Oshkosh. Reinke has put himself into Sabres history with his senior campaign. His 13 goals put him tied for sixth all time for goals in a season. Combined with his one assist, his 27 points to date, moves him into 10th all-time in Sabres history for points scored in a season.
Win No. 200: Head Coach Craig Peltonen achieved a record of his own this season, winning his 200th game at the helm of the Marian men's soccer program. A veteran of 26 seasons, Peltonen has led the Sabres to six conference championships and three consecutive berths into the NCAA Tournament. Sitting at win number 199, the Sabres entered overtime on Sept. 18 against Beloit College after senior Jacob Dorsey knotted things up at one in the 62'. In the 99' minute, David Reinke netted the winner and gave his head coach career win number 200.
