FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University men's tennis team dropped a non-conference battle to rival Ripon College, 9-0, inside the Center Court Tennis Club, this evening, April 19.
All three doubles matches went handily to visiting Ripon, but in the singles portion, Rob Ogden and Andrew Bales made a case. However, their counterparts were the stronger players on this night as they came away with three-set wins.
The Redhawks improve to 3-14 overall with the win, while the Sabres drop to 0-9 with the setback.
After falling behind 3-0, the senior Ogden tried to will the Sabres back into the match with a tough three-set match against #1 singles opponent, Eric Seiler of Ripon. Ogden dropped the first set before bouncing back for a 7-5 win in set two, but Seiler took the third and decisive set, 11-9.
Ripon's Connor Greenwald made quick work at #2 singles, dropping just two games en route to a straight sets win. Meanwhile, Andrew Bales battled hard with a 6-1 second set win to force a third and final set. His opponent, Ryan Slowinski, would come away with the 10-2 win and the match.
Jose Valencia, Sam Maetzold and Josh Heup all struggled against the formidable Ripon trio at #4, #5 and #6 singles on the way to a 9-0 defeat at home.
The Sabres will have a quick turnaround, hosting a morning match against Aurora University at 10 a.m., followed by an afternoon tilt with Rockford College at 2 p.m. Both matches are scheduled at Center Court Tennis Club.
