FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University men's tennis team closed out the 2013 regular season this afternoon, April 24, dropping a 9-0 decision to visiting Edgewood College at Buttermilk Creek Park.
The Sabres (1-11, 1-8 NAC) were coming off its first win of the year over Rockford just a few days prior to today's match. Edgewood (7-21, 6-3 NAC) was coming off a victory over Lakeland College earlier in the day at the same outdoor venue. Edgewood won that meeting by a score of 9-0 as well.
Marian's #1 doubles team and senior duo of Rob Ogden and Andrew Bales took four games from their counterpart, but Edgewood's combo of Patrick Lagman and Eric Gavinski proved too much to overcome in an 8-4 decision.
The closest match of the day also involved Ogden as he play Lagman to a tight match at #1 singles. Ogden took the first set before falling in a three-set tie-break 4-6, 6-2, 10-3.
The loss falls Marian short of qualifying for the NAC tournament this season, but will return the majority of its roster next year in hopes of doing so in 2014.
