RIVER FOREST, Ill. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University men's tennis team fell on the road to host Dominican University and Concordia University Chicago in Northern Athletics Conference action, today, April 6.
Marian picked up its first point of the season with a win from Rob Ogden at #1 singles against Concordia Chicago. Aside from that, the Sabres were unable to gain any momentum as it dropped a pair in conference action.
In the morning match against the Stars, the Sabres struggled to get anything going. Ogden won four games combined in his straight sets defeat, while Elan Solvik and Andrew Bales won three games combined in setbacks at #2 and #3 singles.
Dominican went on to win the match 9-0 from Taylor Park in Oak Park, Ill.
In the nightcap, Ogden defeated Clinton Bienz in dominating fashion, 6-1, 6-0. It was the first win of the season for the senior.
At #4 singles, Sam Maetzold suffered the hard-luck defeat after nearly battling back to take the final two sets. CUC's Patrick McIntosh came away with the three-set victory, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.
At #1 doubles, Ogden and his teammate Andrew Bales fell in narrow fashion, 8-6, while Solvik and Maetzold were turned aside, 8-3, at #2 doubles.
The Sabres will be back in action next weekend, hosting Lakeland College and Concordia University Wisconsin next Saturday, April 13, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
