Marian Tennis Falls to Lakeland, CUW on the Road

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – Senior Elan Solvik tried his best to lead the Marian University men's tennis team to its first victory of the season, but Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference foes, Lakeland College and reigning league champ, Concordia University Wisconsin, proved too tough at home, today, April 12.

Solvik won both of his matches at #1 singles and #1 doubles against Lakeland. He teamed up with doubles partner, Jose Valencia, and dispatched the Lakeland duo of Jake Halverson and Greg Boknevitz, 8-3. Solvik then answered back in #1 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Halverson to give Marian two points.

However, those would be the only two points the Sabres would register as the Muskies went on to claim the rest en route to a 7-2 win.

The #3 doubles team of Payton Trammel and Sam Maetzold put up a good fight with an 8-6 setback to Carlos Rodriguez and Alex Romanini.

In the afternoon tilt at Concordia Wisconsin, the Falcons flexed its muscles with a 9-0 win. A team that doesn't need any extra help was given a lift anyway when the Sabres handed the Falcons three wins by default at #3 doubles and #5 and #6 singles.

The Sabres will be back in action tomorrow when they make up previous rainouts against Wisconsin Lutheran College and MSOE. No need to take weather into consideration as both matches will be played at Center Court Indoor Tennis Center in Fond du Lac at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
