Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Lindsay Vogels scored 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field but Ripon shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half to clip Marian 63-51 Tuesday evening at Sadoff Gymnasium.
Neither team gained a significant advantage in the first half and the Red Hawks (3-0, 0-0 MWC) led 30-21 at the break. In the opening stanza Marian shot 28 percent (6-of-21) from the field, while Ripon hit 38 percent (13-of-34) of its shots.
The second half was a different story as RC saw its shots fall, while MU was looking for answers.
The Red Hawks hit 50 percent (10-of-20) from the floor and converted 11-of-12 of their free throws.
In the first half the Sabres were 70 percent (7-of-10) from the charity stripe, but struggled in the second half and hit 47 percent (8-of-17) of its free throws.
Nicole Paulus scored 13 points and grabbed five boards. Molly Kovarik came off the bench and scored 10 points and was 2-of-3 from behind the arc.
Marian (2-1, 0-0 NACC) opens conference play Saturday against Concordia Wisconsin. Tip is set for 4:15 p.m. at Sadoff Gymnasium.
