FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Marian baseball team upended Ripon College 7-3 Wednesday evening at Herr-Baker Field to run its winning streak to four in a row. The Sabres have also won six of its past seven and are 8-2 at home this season.
Marian received a strong effort on the mound from junior Shaquille Lacroes (1-1).
The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder tossed five innings and allowed four hits, two runs (both unearned) and two walks and struck out three and dropped his earned run average to a team-low 1.98.
From there Matt Musuras threw two innings and allowed three hits, one run and walked one. Austin Hansen pitched the eighth inning and allowed one hit and one run and Jordan DeBoer entered in the ninth and struck out two to close out the game.
Marian (12-13) found its offensive groove in the bottom of the fourth to subdue the Red Hawks (7-10).
Earl Vorpagel singled to center field to score a run and later in the inning Ty Gellinger's sacrifice fly to left field scored Vorpagel from third.
Moments later TJ McCoy hit his 10th double of the season and scored Tony Grannis for second and the Sabres led 6-1 after four-complete innings.
Brett Kramer and DeBoer each batted 2-for-4 with an RBI. Kramer also added two stolen bases.
The Sabres return to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action Saturday, April 18 at MSOE. The doubleheader is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start.
