Sabres Fall to Eagles

Dylan Peabody

Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Marian tennis team welcomed the Edgewood Eagles to Buttermilk Creek Park for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference dual match on Friday, April 24. The Sabres took the final match of the dual but were ultimately lost 8-1.

The Sabres improved throughout doubles as Carson Johnstone and Zachary Stanczyk were able to take three points in the final doubles match but Marian was set back in all three doubles matches.

It was a slow start for the Sabres in singles play as the team was only able to earn as high as two points in their first five matches, but Stanczyk was able to turn things around for the Sabres in the final match.

Stanczyk was setback in the first set after forcing and overtime, but played with a purpose in the second set. Stanczyk took the second set 6-1, and defeated MSOE's Nick Konen 10-7 in the overtime.

The Sabres continue NACC play on Saturday, April 25 against the Aurora Spartans. The match was originally set to take place at Center Court in Fond du Lac, but due to weather concerns the match will now be held at the John Powless Tennis Court in Madison, Wis. The match is set to start at 10:30 a.m.
