Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Carthage scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to upend Marian 10-6 Wednesday evening at Herr-Baker Field.
The Marian offense jumped out of the gate early.
In the bottom of the second Ryan Blise singled down the left field line to score a run and Tyler Thompson hit a slow chopper to third base to push across a run and the Sabres led 2-0.
In the bottom of the third TJ McCoy doubled down the left field line to plate a run and the Sabres led 3-0 after three-complete innings.
Adam Ryan and Mitchel Buss added RBIs in the bottom of the sixth to open up a 6-2 lead.
The Red Men (24-9) scored three runs in the top of the eighth and five in the top half of the ninth to complete the come back.
Thompson batted 3-for-4 with an RBI and drew a walk.
Hunter Veness started the game and was credited with a no decision. He tossed five innings and scattered seven hits, allowed two runs and two walks and stuck out a batter.
Marian (20-17) returns to Northern Athletic Collegiate Action Friday afternoon with a doubleheader at Rockford. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
