Box Score MEQUON, Wis. – Jordan DeBoer batted 3-for-5 with a pair of runs batted in but the No. 2 seed Marian Sabres ultimately dropped a 13-7 decision to the No. 5 seed Benedictine Eagles in the first round of the 2015 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Baseball Tournament at Kapco Park.
BU (18-22) opened up an early 4-0 first-inning lead and the Sabres were forced to play catch-up throughout the contest.
In the bottom half of the second Chase Eagan singled down the left field line to score DeBoer and the Sabres were back in business. In the bottom of the third DeBoer singled to left field to plate a run and TJ McCoy scored on a wild pitch and MU cut the deficit to 5-3.
Just when the Sabres looked ready to pounce, the Eagles seized momentum and added a pair of runs in the fourth inning and led 7-3 after five-complete frames.
In the bottom half of the sixth Earl Vorpagel singled down the left field line to push across a run, however, BU responded with a total of six runs over the ensuing three innings and led 13-4. McCoy, DeBoer and Eagan added RBI singles in the bottom of the ninth, but the Sabres were unable to significantly close the deficit.
MU (23-18) returns to action Friday, May 8 for a 10 a.m. elimination game against No. 6 seed Aurora. If MU were to win the Sabres would play again at 4 p.m.
