WATERTOWN, Wis. – Alonso Fragoso and Zach Peltonen each netted a pair of goals to lead the Marian University men's soccer team past Maranatha Baptist 5-2 in its season opener.

It didn't take long for the Sabres to hit pay dirt.

Less than 40 seconds into the game Peltonen found the back of the net and a mere four minutes later Fragoso scored on a break away to give the Blue and White an early 2-0 advantage.

At 29:18 Israel Tovar fed Peltonen a nice ball and the Fond du Lac, Wis. native scored for the second time.

MBU scored twice in the first stanza and Marian led 3-2 at the break.

"It was great to get out to a quick start and score a couple early goals" MU head coach Craig Peltonen said. "Overall I thought we played pretty well, but can't allow teams back into games like that."

In the waning minutes of the contest Jeroham Duran and Fragoso scored to secure the win.

The Sabres outshot the Sabrecats 21-11 and by a 12-5 margin in the second half.

Marian returns to action this weekend with a pair of neutral site matches against Trine and Manchester in Chicago.
