Box Score EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The Marian University men's hockey (5-7-1, 3-5-0 NCHA) offense struggled in a 5-1 defeat at No. 6 UW-Eau Claire.
The Blugolds were on the board first scoring at the 12:57 mark of the opening period to cap off a period that saw UWEC outshoot Marian 12-7.
The Sabres answered midway through the second period when sophomore Nick Monfils lit the lamp for the fourth time this season with assists to fellow sophomore Jake Howie and senior Brodie Jamieson.
The final period would be all UWEC as the Blugolds would score a pair of goals in the first 3:53 of action and scored another pair of goals late in the period to set the final at 5-1.
UWEC finished with a 29-16 shot advantage, while the Marian power play unit struggled going 0-7 when on the man advantage. Junior Mike Gudmandson (1-3-0) took the loss in net for the Sabres stopping 24 shots in his 59:46 of ice time.
Marian remains on the road for a weekend series at Northland Jan. 6-7.
