Box Score 2 FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian baseball's (7-16, 0-8 NACC) conference struggles continued as the Sabres were swept at home by MSOE with final scores of 13-5 and 15-3.
The offenses highlighted the opening of the doubleheader with the Raiders pushing across a pair of unearned runs before Marian answered with a pair of runs as well. Jake Falish opened the game with a double to left field before Tony Grannis singled through the right side to put runners on the corners with nobody out. Adam Ryan then drove in Falish with a sacrifice fly followed by an Earl Vorpagel RBI single to score Grannis and knot the game at 2-2.
The Raiders would take a 4-2 advantage scoring a run in the second and the fourth before putting up a three-run inning in the seventh to put the score at 7-2. The Sabres were able to put together a good inning in the bottom half, however, and answer the MSOE three spot.
Grannis continued his hot day bringing in Falish with a double to right center, while Mitchel Buss singled to bring in Grannis with two outs chasing the MSOE starter. Jake Litkenhus then earned an RBI with a bases loaded walk to cap off the three run inning.
In the top of the 8th, however, MSOE was able to score five runs on two hits taking advantage of two hit by pitches and a pair of walks to take the lead for good and cruise to the 13-5 final.
Grannis finished game one 3-4 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI, while Vorpagel went 3-4 with a run batted in and Buss had a multi-hit game going 2-5 with a run scored and run batted in.
Jordan Bock (2-1) was charged his first loss of the season going 5.2 innings allowing two earned runs with a pair of punch outs.
Similarly to the first game of the twin bill, the Marian bats started out hot taking a 3-0 lead after the first. Buss had an RBI single before a Schuyler Rath double to right center brought in a pair of Sabres for the early lead.
This was all the Sabres would manage to scratch out and a pair of big innings for MSOE allowed the Raiders to earn the sweep with a 15-3 final in eight innings.
Jake Falish went 2-4 with a run scored, while Buss had another multi-hit game going 2-4 with a run scored and a run batted in.
Damon Bartos looked good out of the bullpen in his first relief appearance of the season going 4.0 innings scattering five hits and only allowing one unearned run.
Marian looks to bounce back with a NACC doubleheader at home against Rockford Tuesday, April 19 with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
