Sabre bats struggle against Rockford

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University baseball (7-18, 0-10 NACC) could only manage 12 hits as they were swept by Rockford at home by finals of 10-8 and 6-1.

Walks were a big factor in the opener of the NACC twin bill with a total of 20 free passes between both teams.  Marian would get on the board first scoring four unearned runs in the bottom of the second.  Jake Falish opened the scoring with a two-out two RBI single to right field, and Mitchel Buss followed that with a two RBI single himself to give Marian the early lead.

Rockford answered in the next half inning, however, taking advantage of three walks to score four runs and tie the game.  The Regents then took their first lead of the game at 5-4 with a run in the next inning before the Sabres answered with another four spot.

Falish would drive in Josh Bartelt with a sacrifice fly to tie the game before a wild pitch brought in Jordan Walker and a Cody Schaefer doubled down the left line to bring in a pair.  The big inning gave the Sabres the lead at 8-5.

Rockford would mount a comeback that lasted the final three innings plating five runs to give the Regents a comeback 10-8 win.

Walker would have the only multi-hit game for the Sabres going 2-4 with a run scored, while Jake Falish had three runs batted in.

The second part of the twin bill would be a fast paced pitcher's duel, until another strong finish lifted Rockford past Marian.  After RU plated an unearned run to open the game in the top of the first, a Falish RBI single to center field tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third.

From there both pitcher were strong until the Regents would score three runs in the seventh and add a pair of insurance runs in the ninth for the 6-1 win.

Falish would finish the second game going 2-4 with the only run batted in for Marian.

The Sabres return to the diamond for a non-conference doubleheader at UW-Stevens Point tomorrow, Wednesday, April 20, with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
