Box Score 2 FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian baseball (7-22, 0-12 NACC) struggled to slow down the Aurora offense as the Sabres were swept at home with final scores of 12-0 in seven innings, and 13-5.
Aurora opened the doubleheader scoring six runs on five hits in the top of the first inning as the Spartan offense was able to take control in the first game. AU would finish the contest with 12 runs on 16 hits with all but one starter recording a hit.
The Sabres would bang out seven base knocks, but were unable to string anything together. Mitchel Buss was the lone Sabre to have a multi-hit game going 2-3 with the first four in the MU lineup recording a hit.
The second part of the twin bill opened similarly with a 5-0 lead after five innings and adding to it with five runs off five hits in the sixth inning. The Sabre offense was then finally able to get on the board in the bottom half of the sixth opening with back-to-back singles from Jordan Walker and Jake Falish. Earl Vorpagel would reach on a fielder's choice and be pinch ran for by Cody Davis who scored two batters later off a two-out, two RBI single from Buss.
Aurora battled back to put up a run off a two-out rally in the top of the seventh before Marian had another big inning offensively. Jake Litkenhus opened the inning with a double, which was followed by a Tyler Thompson single forcing a pitching change from the Spartans.
Matt Nordlund welcomed the new AU pitcher with a single into right field to score Thompson. Falish would then bring in Nordlund with an RBI double, and Brett Kramer brought in Walker to close out the three run inning that put the score at 11-5.
That would be all that the Marian offense would be able to muster, however, as Aurora shut the door and cruised to the 13-5 final.
Five different Sabres had multi-hit games in game two led by Buss who went 2-4 with a run batted in, and Walker who went 2-4 with two runs scored at the bottom of the MU lineup.
Marian closes out the conference weekend traveling to Edgewood for a 1 p.m. first pitch doubleheader.
