Box Score KENOSHA, Wis. - Marian University baseball (9-28, 1-17 NACC) rallied late, but the late come back effort fell short in a 7-2 non-conference loss at Carthage.
The Red Men would score the first seven runs of the ballgame with a big four-run third inning proving to be the difference. Carthage hit two long balls in that third inning and cushioned their lead in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs.
The Sabre offense finally found a rhythm in the game in the top of the eighth with a pair of runs. Jake Falish started the rally with a one-out walk, which was followed by an Eddie Spies single and a Tony Grannis walk to load the bases. Mitchel Buss then found a hole down the left field line to drive in Falish and Spies before an Earl Vorpagel reloaded the bases. An inning ending double play in the next at bat would end the threat, however, and the MU offense couldn't muster any offense in the ninth to end the game.
Spies continued his hot hitting going 3-4 with a run scored, while Buss also had a multi-hit game going 2-4 with a pair of runs batted in.
Out of the bullpen, Matt Musuras and Blake Dillavou would close out the final three innings of the ball game only allowing one base hit.
Marian goes for the season sweep of Ripon tomorrow, Wednesday, May 4, on the road with a 4 p.m. first pitch.
