Sabre ACHA hockey team earns tie in Lindenwood series

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University ACHA hockey (4-3-1, 4-2-0 NCHL) needed overtime in both games against Lindenwood tying in the opener 2-2 and falling 4-3 in the finale.

The Lions jumped on the Sabres early in the opener scoring on their first pair of power play opportunities.  The second power play goal forced a Marian timeout, which proved to settle down MU.

The Sabres began their come from behind effort at the 11:05 mark of the second period when Jake Weldon found the back of the net with assists from Kirill Proskurin and Tanner Duffney.  Weldon then tied the game with just over 10-minutes remaining in the third period with his second goal of the game with an assist to Duffney once again.

Marian would be unable to convert on a 5-on-3 opportunity later in the period along with a 5-on-4 power play forcing overtime and the eventual tie.

Marian would be slightly outshot in the game by a 40-34 margin but Fredrik Radbjer once again had a big game in net for the Sabres stopping 38 of the 40 shots he faced. 

Lindenwood once again jumped out early in the opener scoring at 7:55 mark to open the first period.  Marian would have an equalizer nearly four-minutes later when Brandon Mills lit the lamp with an assist to Austin Flores.  

Bryton Tomko then gave the Sabres their first lead of the series with a second period goal, assist to Mike Sauer.  Tomko then netted his second goal of the game to extend the Marian lead to 3-1 with at the 7:07 mark of the third period with assists to Weldon and Devin Chmura.

The Lions rallied and began a come back with an unassisted goal with just under seven minutes remaining and then tied the game with just 1:05 left in regulation.  Lindenwood would send two shots towards the goal in the extra period with the second finding the back of the net and giving the Lions a 4-3 overtime win.

Justin Davidson took the loss in net making 38 saves in goal for MU.

Marian returns to NCHL action when they host Marquette Nov. 10-11 with the puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m. for both games.
