Box Score TUCSON, Ariz. - Marian University baseball (3-2, 0-0 NACC) scored all of their runs in the first four innings as the Sabres defeated Macalester 7-3.
The Scots opened the scoring with a pair in the top half of the first frame but the Sabres rallied to knot the game at 2-2 in the bottom half. Marian used a two-out rally to get on the board with senior Tommy Dugandzic hitting a double, which was followed by a two RBI double from sophomore Matt Nordlund.
Macalester had an answer in the next half inning retaking the lead at 3-2 but Marian once again responded taking the lead for good in the bottom half.
MU showed their patience at the plate as they were able to draw six walks in the bottom half of the second with junior Michael Pappas and freshman Nick Bastien crossing the plate.
The Sabres added to the lead with an RBI ground out from freshman Tim Dziergas in the bottom of the fourth which proved to be the final scoring for the game.
Dugandzic once again led the offense going 2-3 with a run scored and awalk, while Pappas scored a pair of runs going 1-3 with a walk.
Junior Kellen Shea (1-0) settled down after the first couple innings finishing the game with six strikeouts in 6.0 innings scattering four hits. Senior Sam Long once again provided solid bullpen relief allowing only two hits in 3.0 innings for his first save of the season.
Marian takes a day off before playing Wesleyan Tuesday, March 14 at 3:30 p.m. (CDT).
