Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Dominant pitching led Marian University baseball (9-14, 3-5 NACC) to a non-conference 6-1 road win over Ripon.
The Sabres were on the board first when sophomore Matt Nordlund reached on a single and a pair of wild pitches sandwiched around a ground allowed the designated to cross the plate in the top of the second. Marian then extended their lead with a big third inning that saw senior Tommy Dugandzic hit a bases-clearing double to left field, which was followed by a Nordlund RBI single to put the Sabres ahead 5-0.
After the seventh inning stretch, Ripon was able to cut into the Marian lead taking advantage of an error on a potential inning-ending double play. The Sabres responded in the next half, however, as senior Cole Miklavcic singled in fellow senior Tyler Thompson after Thompson opened the inning with a double.
From there the Marian bullpen was able to close out the game and give Marian the non-conference 6-1 road win.
Sophomore Jordan Bock (2-1) was dominant earning the win scattering five hits over 6.0 innings of work. Fellow sophomore Ty Peccioli earned his first save of the season only allowing one unearned run over the final 3.0 innings.
The 2-5 spots in the Sabre lineup combined for seven of the nine Marian hits and five of the six runs scored. Thompson, Miklavcic and Nordlund all recorded multi-hit games in the win.
Marian closes out the season series with Illinois Tech with a 3 p.m. doubleheader tomorrow, Friday, April 14.
