Box Score 2 FOND DU LAC, Wis. - A pair of complete game performances propelled Marian University baseball (11-20, 5-9 NACC) to 5-1, 4-0 sweep of Edgewood.
The Sabres jumped on the Eagles early with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second and never gave up that lead to win the opener. Junior Jordan Walker beat out a double play ball to score sophomore Matt Nordlund to open the scoring before freshman Tommy Miller hit a two-out single to score freshman Jake Arens.
The Eagles cut into the lead in the fifth but the Sabres responded in the bottom half with another two-run inning. Freshman Trey Johnson singled to bring in Walker to start the scoring for the inning before senior Cole Miklavcic drove in Johnson with a two-out single.
Marian added insurance in the bottom of the eighth when Walker was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Miklavcic, but the support was plenty for sophomore Jordan Bock (3-2) who went the distance scattering six hits and striking out six Eagles.
Miklavcic had a big game offensively for Marian going 3-4 with a run scored and a run batted in. Freshman Jake Arens also finished with a multi-hit game going 2-4 with a run scored.
The Sabres were able to push across runs early on a consistent basis in game two and a big performance from junior Kellen Shea led the Sabres to a sweep. Good hustle once again opened the scoring for Marian as Nordlund was able to beat out a double play ball to score senior Tyler Thompson in the first inning. Sophomore Josh Bartelt would score on a wild pitch in the second inning before an Eagle error allowed Miklavcic to score in the third and give Marian a 3-0 lead.
It wouldn't be until the seventh that Marian added insurance with senior Tommy Dugandzic driving in Miklavcic with a one-out single. Once again, however, the run support was plenty as Shea (3-3) only allowed four hits while striking out five in the shutout win.
Miklavcic led the offense in game two as well going 3-4 with two runs scored, while Bartelt finished 2-4 with a run scored.
Marian closes out the season-series with Ripon Thursday, April 27 at 7 p.m. for Military Appreciation Night.
