Box Score 2 MEQUON, Wis. - Marian University baseball (11-22, 5-11 NACC) couldn't get the offense rolling falling to Concordia Wisconsin on the road 3-2 and 10-1 in a NACC doubleheader.
The Sabres held the lead for most of the game in the opener but a late Falcon rally gave CUW game one. A double down the left field line from freshman Tim Dziergas to plate senior Tommy Dugandzic opened the scoring in the top of the second and was followed by an RBI fielder's choice from junior Jordan Walker to score Dziergas. The Falcons cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third scoring an unearned run.
The Sabre offense would be unable to add on to their lead, however, and the Falcons were able to plate a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth to take their first lead of the day at 3-2. Marian rallied in the top of the ninth putting the tying run on third with two outs but were unable to push the run across leading to the 3-2 final.
Senior Cole Miklavcic and sophomore Jake Falish each had a multi-hit game going 2-4. Sophomore Jordan Bock (3-3) took the tough-luck loss throwing 7.2 innings allowing two earned runs and striking out three.
The Sabres stuck around in the first half of game two but four Sabre errors allowed the Falcons to pull away from MU. The Falcons were on the board first with a run in the bottom of the fourth before an RBI single from freshman Trey Johnson with two outs scored fellow freshman Tommy Miller to knot the game at 1-1 in the next half inning.
The Falcons then took the lead for good in the bottom half of the fifth, however, and extended their lead with three runs in the sixth, four runs in the seventh and one run in the eighth.
Senior Tyler Thompson was the lone Sabre in the second game to record multiple hits going 2-4.
Marian closes out the weekend tomorrow, Sunday, April 30 with a noon twin bill against Wisconsin Lutheran from Herr-Baker Field.
