Sabres drop pair of tight battles to WLC

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MEQUON, Wis. - Marian University baseball (11-24, 5-13 NACC) fell to Wisconsin Lutheran 4-3 and 4-2 from Kapco Park in NACC action.

The Sabres were on the board first with freshman Trey Johnson leading off the bottom of the first with a triple and scoring on a wild pitch but the Warriors rallied in the third with a pair of runs in the third to take their first lead of the game.  The Sabres were able to answer in the bottom of the fourth when freshman Nick Bastien singled to left center to bring home sophomore Jake Falish and freshman Tim Dziergas.  In the next half-inning, however, WLC would retake the lead at 4-3 and shut down the Marian offense the rest of the way to earn the win.

Sophomore Ty Peccioli provided 4.2 innings of relief only allowing two hits and striking out four, while senior Tommy Dugandzic went 3-3 with two walks in the loss.  Dziergas also finished with a multi-hit game going 2-4 with a run scored.

Marian once again scored in the first inning with Bastien crossing the plate off an RBI groundout from senior Cole Miklavcic, but a late rally from WLC would give the Warriors the sweep.  The Warriors would tie the game in the third with a run before a sacrifice fly from sophomore Matt Nordlund in the bottom of the fifth scored senior Tyler Thompson to put MU back ahead 2-1.

Wisconsin Lutheran strung hits together in the eighth as they were able to get into the Marian bullpen scoring three runs and putting the final at 4-2.

Sophomore Brady Nehring didn't factor in the decision but threw a strong 7.0 innings only allowing one run and striking out four.  Freshman Jake Arens led the offense going 3-4, while Thompson finished 2-4 with a run scored and a walk.

Marian is next in action tomorrow, Wednesday, May 3, when they take on Ripon at 6 p.m. from Herr-Baker Field.
