No. 3 Marian ACHA hockey retains Mequon du Lac Cup

FOND DU LAC / MEQUON, Wis. - No. 3 Marian University ACHA hockey (16-0-0, 10-0-0 NCHL) retained possession of the Mequon du Lac Cup after sweeping Concordia Wisconsin with 11-0 and 9-1 finals.

Alex Kruger posted a shutout for the Sabres in the opener stopping all 23 shots he would face.  From there, the offense was able to produce plenty of goals to back their goalie.  The Sabres scored three goals in the first and third period to go with a five-goal second period to cruise to a win in the opener at Blue Line Family Ice Center.

Dan Roe led the way for the Sabres on the offensive end with a four-point game coming from a pair of goals and pair of assists.  Jake Weldon and Devin Chmura each had three-point games with Weldon scoring once and Chmura twice.  Bryton Tomko, Connor Rosaasen and Brandon Mills each had multi-point games in the win, while Tanner Duffney, Paul Kinder, Sheamus Stoyle, Jarod Lang, and Nikita Sokov all had a point in the win.

The Sabres were able to close out the game with a 49-23 advantage in shots.

The second game of the series may have shifted to Ozaukee Ice Arena, but Marian didn't miss a beat as the Sabres built an early lead and cruised to a sweep.  The Sabres opened with a 3-0 lead after the first period before four goals in the second period and a pair of goals in the third period.  The Falcons would score their only goal of the weekend in the second period.

Tyren Boots led the offense with a four-point game, all of which were assists.  The Sabres then had seven skaters record multiple points and another four skaters record one point.  Liberko and Connor Martin each had a multi-goal game to lead the scoring.

Kruger once again had a strong performance in goal for the Sabres making 18 saves as Marian held a 49-19 advantage in shots.

Marian will next hit the road for a non-conference series at No. 4 Lindenwood Nov. 16-17.
