DULUTH, Minn. - Marian University men's hockey (10-8-3, 8-5-1 NCHA) scored with under three minutes remaining to defeat St. Scholastica 2-1.

Neither team found the back of the net in the opening period as Marian took an early 11-4 advantage in shots.  Freshman Parker Colley would break the tie with his second goal of the season at the 12:41 mark of the second period, assists to junior Mitchell Baumann and senior Nick Monfils.

The Saints would outshoot the Sabres 20-11 in the second period but junior Hunter Vorva stopped all 20 shots.  St. Scholastica then ended the Marian penalty kill's perfect stretch at 25 with a power play goal at the 14:20 mark of the third period to tie the game.

Freshman Yuri Chernichko made sure the Sabres would prevent overtime with his fifth goal of the season at the 17:41 mark with an assist to junior Lawson MacDonald.

The Sabres closed out the game with a 35-30 advantage in shots led by Chernichko who had a game-high seven shots.  Vorva (9-7-3) made 29 saves in the winning effort and held an opponent conference to less than two goals for the eighth time this season.

Marian opens the Battle of Highway 41 at Lawrence Friday, February 1 with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
