Marian men's hockey knocks off No. 6 UW-Stevens Point

Box Score

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - Marian University men's hockey (5-3-0, 3-3-0 NCHA) defeated a ranked opponent for the third-straight time with a 4-3 win over No. 6 UW-Stevens Point.

The Pointers started off strong scoring the opening goal just 3:33 in and ended up with a 14-7 advantage in shots through 20 minutes.  Marian was able to find an equalizer, however, at the 14:31 mark when junior Dylan Hutton scored his first goal of the year with assists from seniors Lawson MacDonald and Conner Blanck.

Marian then took the lead just 45 seconds into the second period when freshman Ty Enns scored on a power play for his third goal of the year, assist to sophomore Gianni Vitali.  Hutton then lit the lamp for a second time at the 4:25 mark to give Marian a 3-1 advantage with assists from Blanck and sophomore Nathan Walker.  The lead wouldn't last, though, as UWSP scored twice in the final 10:14 of the period to put the game at 3-3 heading into the third.

The Sabres were unable to convert on a pair of power-play opportunities to open the period before sophomore Salvatore Scalise scored his first goal of the season, assists to senior Nolan Ross and Enns, for what proved to be the game-winner with 7:12 remaining.

Marian was narrowly outshot by a 25-22 margin but outshot the Pointers 8-5 in the final period.  Scalise and sophomores Blaine Caton and Parker Colley all had a team-high three shots.  Senior Hunter Vorva (4-2-0) made 13 of his 22 stops in the first period to earn the win in goal.

The Sabre penalty kill also held the Pointers scoreless on three power-play chances.  Marian improves to 4-1-0 on the season against ranked opponents.

Marian closes out the weekend tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 30, traveling to Bethel for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
