TUCSON, Ariz. - Marian University baseball (7-1, 0-0 NACC) defeated Hamline 10-6 and Macalester 20-9 in eight innings to secure another sweep at the Tucson Invitational.

The Sabre offense took care of business early to start the day as Marian scored nine unanswered runs to open their game against Hamline.  Junior Nick Bastien opened a five-run third inning with an RBI single, which was followed by a sacrifice fly from senior Matt Nordlund.  Sophomore Sean Meyer drove in a run before a double steal saw Bastien cross home plate.  Sophomore Josh Gates closed out the inning driving in Meyer.

Marian then put up four runs in the sixth opening with an RBI double from sophomore Jonah Landowski.  Senior Jake Falish then plated a run with a single before another sacrifice fly from Nordlund.  Meyer closed out the inning with another RBI single as Marian led 9-0.

The Pipers answered back with a six-run sixth inning to cut their deficit down to three.  Another RBI base hit from Landowski plated Gates and put the cushion, and eventual final at 10-6.

The top four hitters in the Marian lineup combined to go 8-for18 led by Bastien who had a three-hit game.  Landowski was able to turn over the lineup in the ninth spot going 3-5 with two runs scored and two driven in.  Sophomore Garrett Martin (2-0) earned the victory tossing 5.2 innings with six strikeouts, while senior Brady Nehring earned the save after going 3.1 innings allowing just three hits and one run.

The Scots opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the first inning but the Sabres quickly tied the game in the third.  After Macalester immediately responded with three runs in the next half inning, the Sabres were able to take the lead for good with seven runs in the fourth.

Falish opened the inning being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded before Bastien cleared the bases with a grand slam, his second career home run.  Landowski then closed out the scoring with a double.

The two squads traded a run in the fifth before the Sabres broke the game open with six runs in the sixth.  Falish and Meyer each had run-producing hits in the inning, while Bastien hit a sacrifice fly and Landowski was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  The Sabres were able to end the game early with four runs in the eighth behind run-producing at-bats from senior Travis Slywka, junior Jake Arens and junior Aaron Schauer.

Arens, Meyers, and Slywka all had multiple hits to lead the offense with Slywka scoring four times.  Senior Ty Peccioli (2-0) earned the victory tossing 6.0 innings allowing just three earned runs and striking out seven.
