LISLE, Ill. - Marian University men's lacrosse (1-1, 0-1 MLC) dropped their conference opener falling to Benedictine 15-4 on the road.

Benedictine started fast in the game scoring seven goals in the opening quarter.  The Eagles then outscored Marian 5-1 in the second quarter to take a 12-1 halftime lead with the only Marian tally coming from freshman Colt Robertson.

The Sabres kept even with the Eagles in the second half with each team scoring three goals.  Sophomore Garrett Houlihan scored with an assist to fellow sophomore Jeremy Eisele in the third quarter.  Freshman Erik Horman then scored a man-up goal to open the fourth quarter scoring, assist to sophomore Connor Houlihan, and sophomore Tommy Gerlach closed out the Marian scoring for the game.

Freshman Johnny Estrada suffered the loss making 14 saves on the 29 shots he faced.  Five of the goals he allowed came while the Eagles had a man-advantage.  Gerlach also finished with a game-high seven ground balls, while senior Matt Htwe had a game-high three caused turnovers.

Marian went 15-23 in the faceoff circle with freshman Vincent Mercadante going 7-10 on his faceoffs along with four ground balls.

Marian is next scheduled to host Monmouth (Ill.) in their home opener Saturday, March 16 at 3 p.m. in MLC action.
