Sabre baseball drops pair of tight NACC games to Aurora

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FOND DU LAC - Marian University baseball (14-11, 6-8 NACC) dropped a pair of tight games to Aurora with final scores of 5-2 and 3-2.

The Sabres started the day strong scoring in the bottom of the first inning off of an RBI from sophomore Sean Meyer.  Aurora had an answer in the next half inning, however, to tie the game at 1-1.

This score would stand until the eighth inning as both pitchers were able to dominate.  From innings three to seven, senior Ty Peccioli would only allow two hits with three-consecutive perfect innings.  In the eighth, Aurora was able to strike after two outs with a triple to right field and a single in the next at-bat to go ahead 4-2.

Marian was able to cut into their deficit with a two-out RBI themselves in the next half inning with senior Travis Slywka driving in Meyer.  Aurora answered with a run in the top of the ninth and shut down Marian in the bottom half to secure the win.

Peccioli (2-2) was the tough-luck loser going 7.2 innings scattering eight hits with six punch outs.  Marian had three multi-hit games in sophomore Michael Snow, Meyer, and sophomore Nick Dugandzic.  Meyer also scored a run and drove in a run.

The second game was a similar pitcher's duel with Aurora scoring off of a leadoff homer to open the game.  Marian responded in the bottom of the first with an RBI single from Dugandzic and a sacrifice fly from senior Matt Nordlund.  The Spartans answered with a run in the second to tie the game at 2-2, which held until the seventh.

The Spartans were once again able to take the lead with two outs this time in the seventh inning to take their first lead of the game.  Marian was able to put runners on first and second with one out in the eighth but couldn't find the clutch hit and eventually fell 3-2.

Senior Jordan Bock (4-1) followed in Peccioli's footsteps with a strong outing going 8.0 innings striking out six hitters.  Junior Jake Arens and Dugandzic each had multi-hit games to lead the offense.

Marian returns to action traveling to Rockford Monday, April 22 for a noon doubleheader in NACC action.
