LISLE, Ill. - Marian University baseball (18-12, 9-9 NACC) settled for a split at Benedictine winning the opener 9-1 before falling 5-0 in the finale.

Marian used an error to put together a big inning to open the first game and used a pair of big innings late to pull away.  An error in the third allowed senior Jake Falish and junior Nick Bastien to score before senior Matt Nordlund drove in another pair of runs with a double.

The Sabres padded their lead in the seventh with three runs opening with an RBI double from junior Jake Arens that plated a pair.  Sophomore Sean Meyer closed out the inning with an RBI single.  Marian once again padded their lead with RBI singles from sophomore Nick Dugandzic and Nordlund.  Benedictine was able to end the shutout in the ninth but the Sabres were able to cruise to the win.

The heart of the Marian order finished the game 7-for-14 with three runs scored and four runs driven in led by Dugandzic who went 3-for-5.  Arens also had a strong game going 2-for-5 with two driven in and two runs scored.

Senior Ty Peccioli (3-2) had a dominant start earning a complete game win allowing just one run with nine strikeouts.

Benedictine turned the tables in game two taking advantage of an error to put together a big inning.  The Sabre offense didn't have an answer as Marian was held to only five hits with junior Michael Snow posting a multi-hit game.

On the bump, the Sabres only allowed five hits with the trio of juniors Tim Dziergas and Drew Nuanes, and senior Connor Nelson tossing the final 4.2 innings without allowing a single hit.

Marian returns home to take on Illinois Tech tomorrow, Monday, April 29, at 3 p.m. from Herr-Baker Field in NACC action.
