No. 3 Marian ACHA D2 pushes win streak to five with sweep of Lewis

FOND DU LAC - No. 3 Marian University ACHA D2 hockey (22-2-1, 11-1-0 NCHL) returned to NCHL action sweeping Lewis behind a 9-1 victory in the opener and 5-2 win in the finale.

The Sabres opened the series with a strong offensive first period scoring five times in the first 20 minutes.  Marian traded goals with the Flyers in the second period before a three-goal third period to easily earn a 9-1 victory.  Connor Martin recorded a hat trick to lead the offense with two of his goals coming in the first period.  Tyren Boots had a multi-goal game while Brandon Mills, Sheamus Stoyle, Bryton Tomko, and Colby Sherlock all had one goal.  Connor Rosaasen recorded five assists with Mills, Tomko, Sherlock, and Jarod Lang all assisting on multiple goals.

Marian outshot Lewis 46-31 for the game with Justin Davidson recording 30 stops to earn the win between the pipes.

The finale was much closer but another three-goal third period allowed Marian to earn a sweep.  Boots opened the scoring for the game with assists to Rosaasen and Zach Wilson in the first period before Lewis answered to tie the game after the first period.  The second period was similar with Rosaasen lighting the lamp, assists to Tomko and Dan Liberko, only to have Lewis tie the game at 2-2 heading into the third. 

Tucker Kruse was able to net the game-winner to open the third period with an assist to Martin.  Rosaasen then netted his second of the game, assists to Tomko and Boots, before Kruse scored his second goal of the period to close out the scoring, assist to Martin.

The Sabres were once again able to dominate in shots by a 55-25 margin with Will McCreight stopping 23 shots.

Marian closes out the regular season with a home-and-home series against Marquette opening on the road Friday, Feb. 7 for a 7:30 p.m.  The finale at Blue Line will also drop the puck at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8.
