CANTON, N.Y. - Marian University men's lacrosse (2-1, 0-1 MLC) defeated SUNY Canton 17-11 in non-conference action.

The Roos opened the scoring but Marian would score five of the next six goals to take a 5-2 lead.  Sophomore Colt Robertson was able to score three of the Sabre goals.  SUNY Canton was able to cut their deficit down to one before a goal from sophomore Finn Maloney, assist to Robertson, gave the Sabres a 6-4 lead after one stanza.

SUNY Canton had a strong start to the second quarter tying the game at 6-6 but Marian once again had an answer scoring four unanswered.  The Sabres had four different goal scorers in the stretch and used a goal from freshman Mason Powless to go ahead 11-7 heading into halftime.

Marian came out firing out of the break scoring the first four goals of the third quarter.  Junior Garrett Houlihan had the first two goals of the quarter.  The Sabres once again scored the first pair of goals to open the fourth quarter to open a 17-8 lead and cruised the rest of the way to a 17-11 win.

Robertson paced the offense scoring five goals with Houlihan adding four scores.  Junior Tommy Gerlach led the team with seven ground balls and fellow junior Marcus Fosdick was able to force four turnovers as the Sabre defense recorded 22 caused turnovers.

Freshman Richard Summers III made 12 saves in goal to earn his second win of the season.

Marian returns to action taking on Potsdam Thursday, March 12 for a noon (CDT) start.
