Box Score MOORHEAD, Minn. - Marian University men's hockey (1-1-0, 0-0-0 NCHA) scored three unanswered power-play goals to defeat Concordia College 3-2 in overtime.
Similarly to the opener of the series, the first two periods were fairly quiet with the Cobbers scoring the lone goal of the game short-handed. They then added to their lead 8:43 into the third period with another short-handed tally before the Marian rally began. Sophomore Nolan Kadachuk got the Sabres on the board with a power-play tally, assist to junior Jack Sampson at the 9:05 mark. Then with just over five minutes left in regulation, freshman Jordan Simoneau scored his first goal in a Sabre jersey to tie the game with another assist to Sampson.
Sampson then played the role of hero scoring with just seven seconds remaining in overtime to give the Sabres their first victory of the season. Senior Blaine Caton had an assist on the goal that gave Sampson a three-point day. The goal was also the only shot Marian had in the extra period.
The Sabres outshot the Cobbers in every period except overtime to finish with a 39-28 advantage. Senior Parker Colley had six of those shots and won 12 of 20 faceoffs. Junior Colby Muise (1-1-0) made 27 saves in the victory and held Concordia scoreless on three power plays.
Marian plays their first home games of the season hosting Adrian Friday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 13 at 4:30 p.m.
