Marian NCAA men's hockey puts three on CSC Academic All-District team

GREENWOOD, Ind. - Three student-athletes from the Marian University NCAA men's hockey program have been named Academic All-District by the organization College Sports Communicators (CSC).

The CSC Academic All-American program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their efforts both in competition and in the classroom.  To be eligible, a student-athlete must compete in 90 percent of their team's games, or start in at least 66 percent of games, and attain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5. They must also hold at least sophomore standing at their institution.

Junior Cole Carlson (Fond du Lac, Wis.) was one of the top three scorers for the Sabres to earn his first CSC Academic All-District selection.  Carlson skated in all 27 games and was one of the top scorers for Marian finishing with 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 total points.  He was tied for the team lead with his five power-play goals while also tallying a short-handed goal.  Carlson earned an NCHA Star of the Week award after scoring three goals with two assists in the Lawrence series.  One of those goals was an overtime game-winner that helped Marian secure the Battle of Highway 41 traveling trophy.  He also had a multi-point game at home against Dubuque scoring a goal to go with an assist.

Junior Nolan Flint (Beaverlodge, Alta.) had a breakout season in terms of scoring to be named CSC Academic All-District for the first time.  Flint served as a captain appearing in 26 games scoring 10 goals to go with 11 assists for 21 total points.  He had multiple points in four games this past season including a four-point game at home against MSOE where he had a pair of goals and a pair of assists.  Flint also had a pair of assists in the season opener against Saint John's (Minn.).  On the power play, he was tied for the team lead with his four goals.  He was also one of the top face-off men for the Sabres this season winning 275 draws and finishing the season with a winning percentage.

Senior Noah Pickart (Fond du Lac, Wis.) solidified himself as one of the best to wear a Sabre sweater at the blue line earning his second CSC Academic All-District honor.  He finished his season tied for seventh with 21 assists among all skaters, but was tied for second in the category when looking at only defensemen.  His average of 0.78 assists per game was also good for 33rd in the nation for all skaters and seventh for defensemen.  Pickart skated in all 27 games this season recording at least a point 18 times.  He went on to record multiple points in six games with four of those instances being multiple assists.  Pickart had an especially dominant second half of the season recording 15 points over the final 14 games of the regular season.  He closed out his career third all-time for defenseman assists and fourth all-time for points from a defenseman.  He was also just the second defenseman in program history to earn multiple all-conference awards in the NCHA era.

The three honorees is the most for the Sabre NCAA men's hockey program in a single season.
