MILWAUKEE - Marian University men's basketball (1-3, 0-3 NACC) dropped the series opener to WLC by a 78-69 final.

The Sabres led midway through the first half 18-13 before the Warriors scored 12 unanswered points to go up 25-18 with 6:29 left in the half.  The Warriors would lead by as much as 12 but the Sabres were able to cut down on the deficit and trailed by only seven at 38-31 going into halftime.

Marian was able to come out shooting and thanks to a 9-2 run to open the second half, Marian was easily able to tie the game at 40-40 with 17:38 left to play.  The Sabres were able to take the lead shortly after and held an advantage for most of the second half.  Marian led by as much as six at 62-56 with 5:29 left before WLC began to rally.  The Warriors were able to score seven unanswered points to take a 63-62 advantage with 4:07 left in the game.  The game went back-and-forth from there before another 9-0 run gave the Warriors a 74-66 lead with just 50 seconds remaining allowing them to cruise to the 78-69 win.

Sophomore Tyler Gouin paced the Sabres with a game-high 20 points, while junior David Britton added 18 and senior DeAndre Ross chipped in 15.  Junior Scott Paulus led the Sabres down low with a game-high nine rebounds to go with three blocks.

Marian closes out the series at WLC tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 6, at 5 p.m.
