MONTGOMERY, Ill. - Marian University softball (8-6, 0-0 NACC) was swept at Aurora with final scores of 9-0 in five innings and 10-6.
The first game of the twin bill proved to be all Spartans as the Sabres would fall by a mercy rule. Marian would only manage two hits in the defeat with sophomore Kaley Ludvigsen and freshman Katelyn Matenaer each hitting a single.
The Spartans were able to strike early in game two scoring six runs in the first two innings but the Sabres wouldn't go away quietly. Junior Melanie Weigel and senior Alexa each had run-producing doubles in the bottom of the second to highlight a four-run inning that put Marian down just 6-4.
Senior Peyton Loesch was able to hit her fifth home run of the season in the next inning, and sophomore Andrea Miller drove in a run with a single but the slow start was too much to overcome in a 10-6 loss.
Weigel was the lone Sabre with multiple hits going 2-for-3 with a run scord and a run driven in. Sophomore Emalee Depa provided 5.0 innings of relief in game two and only allowed two earned runs.
Marian travels to Edgewood tomorrow, Monday, March 29, for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
