No. 6 Marian ACHA D2 defeats No. 15 Jamestown for first National Tournament win

BISMARCK, N.D. - No. 6 Marian University ACHA D2 (14-2-0) won their first National Tournament game in program history defeating No. 15 Jamestown 8-3.

The Sabres were able to jump out early on the Jimmies with DJ Horne opening the scoring with an unassisted goal 9:34 into the game.  Zach Wilson then netted a power-play score at the 13:26 mark with assists to Karl Lavoie and Bryton Tomko to put Marian ahead 2-0.  Jamestown would find the net with just over four minutes left to put the score at 2-1 heading into the first intermission.

Marian then took command scoring four unanswered goals to open the second period.  Colby Sherlock opened the period with an unassisted score just 1:57 in before Marian netted back-to-back short-handed goals.  Connor Rosaasen scored his third goal of the tournament for the first short-hander, assist to Tyren Boots, followed by a Tomko goal, assist to Tyler StudantDom Pajor then put Marian ahead 6-1 at the 12:24 mark with assists to Boots and Jason Volger.  The Jimmies once again had the final goal of the period to trail 6-2 after two.

Jamestown was able to cut the lead down to three before a pair of Sabre goals closed out the game.  Studant scored the first, which came on a power play, with an assist to Tomko, before Lavoie scored with an assist to Tomko and Studant, also a power-play goal.

Marian had a commanding lead in shots with a 49-25 advantage and outshot Jamestown 20-5 in the first 20 minutes.  Alex Kruger earned the victory making 22 saves.

Marian closes out pool play taking on No. 3 Iowa State tomorrow, Saturday, April 17, for a 4:30 p.m. puck drop.
