WAUWATOSA, Wis. - Marian University softball (15-13, 4-6 NACC) bounced back from a 6-2 defeat to beat Wisconsin Lutheran 6-1 and salvage a split.

The Sabres couldn't manage to string hits together in the opener and a fast start from the Warriors gave WLC game one.  Wisconsin Lutheran plated three runs in the bottom of the second before a double from senior Katy Croeker plated a pair in the fourth.  The Warriors then scored a pair of unearned runs in the fifth to set the final at 6-2.

Senior Paige Rauhut (7-7) took the loss allowing eight hits over 6.0 innings with three of the six runs she allowed being earned.

Two big swings from the Sabres then in game two led to a split along with a dominating performance in the circle.  Sophomore Julia Corona started the Sabres off with a strong first inning hitting her second home run of the season, a three-run shot.  After the Warriors plated an unearned run in the bottom of the third, junior Melanie Weigel provided some insurance in the seventh with a three-run homer of her own, the second home run of the year for her.

This run support was plenty for sophomore Emalee Depa (7-3) who allowed just four hits in the complete-game win with only one unearned run crossing the plate.  Weigel had a three-hit game to lead the offense with freshman Katelyn Matenaer also recording a multi-hit game.

Marian closes out the series with Wisconsin Lutheran tomorrow, Sunday, April 18, with first pitch scheduled for noon.
