Marian baseball continues home domination with sweep of Edgewood

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FOND DU LAC - Marian University baseball (13-17, 9-3 NACC) earned another NACC series win after sweeping Edgewood 4-3 and 9-3 at home.

The opener of the doubleheader opened with strong pitching, but some timely hitters from the Sabres allowed Marian to earn a tight win.  The Eagles struck first in the third with a pair of runs before senior Nick Bastien drove in a pair himself in the bottom half.  Marian was able to take the lead in the fourth with a single from junior Ricky Lee, and padded their lead at 4-2 with a single from senior Sean Meyer in the fifth.  Edgewood plated a run in the sixth but it was the final run of the game.

Junior Josh Gates had the lone multi-hit game for Marian going 2-for-3.  On the bump, senior Noah Imrie (1-4) earned the win going 6.0 innings allowing just two earned runs, while freshman Connor Medvecz earned his second save tossing the final 3.0 innings and allowing just two hits with four strikeouts.

Pitching continued to dominate in game two with the Sabres putting together a big inning late to secure the sweep.  A solo home run from Edgewood opened the scoring in the first before an error allowed the Sabres to tie the game in the third.  An RBI ground out from freshman Robbie Knorr in the fifth gave the Sabres the lead at 2-1.

This score held until the eighth when Edgewood was able to retake the lead at 3-2 after taking advantage of a pair of Marian miscues defensively.  The Sabres immediately responded scoring seven runs in the bottom half.  The big spark for the inning came from senior Michael Snow who hit a double after an intentional walk to Lee to give the Sabres the lead.  Marian also plated three runs with two outs in the inning.

Senior Jonah Landowski had a strong performance going 7.2 innings allowing just two earned runs with 10 strikeouts, while sophomore Mac Doherty (2-0) earned the win tossing the final 1.1 innings and allowing just two hits.  Bastien led the offense at the top of the order going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and another driven in.

Marian plays their final non-conference twin bill of the year hosting Northland Wednesday, April 28 for a 4 p.m. first pitch.
