Box Score LISLE, Ill. - Marian University men's lacrosse (7-6, 4-3 NACC) was tied with top-seeded Benedictine 10-10 in the fourth quarter but the Eagles were able to escape with a 15-12 win.
The opening quarter was a back-and-forth affair with junior Colt Robertson scoring a pair of goals to put the Sabres down just 5-4. The second quarter was similar but the Sabres were able to tie the game at 7-7 heading into halftime with three different goal scorers.
Each team knotted a pair of goals in the third to put the game at 9-9 heading into the final 15 minutes. Robertson had a hand in each Marian goal for the quarter. After each team scored a goal to tie the game at 10-10, Benedictine was able to score four unanswered to take a 14-10 advantage with 8:38 left to play. Marian was able to score two of the final three goals but couldn't overcome the late run falling to 15-12.
Robertson had a four-point night scoring three times and adding one assist. Senior Tommy Gerlach paced the squad with six ground balls and also caused a pair of turnovers.
Sophomore Richard Summers III provided a strong relief appearance in goal making nine saves on 19 shots in the final 45 minutes of the game.
Marian closes the season with a winning record for the second time out of three full seasons as a program.
